Soon after they moved from Charleston to Southern Pines to be closer to family, the previous owners of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southernwhey.com\/\">Southern Whey<\/a>, who were old friends, asked if they wanted to buy the cheese shop due to an impending divorce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Since the couple both had worked in sales, they jumped at the chance. \u201cIt was a chance to learn something new,\u201d Angela said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After they took over the shop in 2015 in the idyllic, tree-lined downtown Southern Pines, the couple has focused on selling artisan cheeses from around the world and cheese produced in the Carolinas. They\u2019ve made cheeses more approachable for their eclectic southern community that\u2019s a mix of locals, military families, retirees, and visitor to this golfing mecca. They also specialize in cheese and meat boards, their house-made pimento cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches and various condiments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe focus on small farm, artisan made cheeses,\u201d said Sanchez, who had spent 20 years in the wine industry working for an importer.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Store<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"sqs-block-image-figure              intrinsic\"><\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image\" data-image=\"https:\/\/images.squarespace-cdn.com\/content\/v1\/5eb43938f468c330e7d8d665\/1625011959236-7J47AQRI2RIJ2AH1BUFH\/cheese+shop.jpg\" data-image-dimensions=\"500x346\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" alt=\"cheese shop.jpg\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"60dbb6f67734501a7cce2e8c\" data-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/images.squarespace-cdn.com\/content\/v1\/5eb43938f468c330e7d8d665\/1625011959236-7J47AQRI2RIJ2AH1BUFH\/cheese shop.jpg?format=1000w\"><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"\">It\u2019s a small store but with a large variety.
